Thank you for posting this is so needed. It's crazy out here. Sometimes it could be someone impersonating a delivery person that's why it's not dumb bc you're right. Everything you said was spot on.

Thanks for this! I live in Europe where I've learned all these tips from my own experience and from friends. This video is very useful to send to other girls and even older women when they ask for tips.

This was very helpful and informative for anyone of any age! Thank you so much because all of the living alone videos I've seen don't really discuss safety.

Also a tip for suite style rooms in college where your rooms join, if you can lock that door at night, lock it. I had a suite style room where we shared a bathroom. I always locked the main door to the hall in my room, but I was friends with the girls in the next room so I never locked my bathroom door at night. One night during exam week, they forgot to lock their main door and a guy came through their room, through the bathroom and into my room. I woke up to the sound of him locking my bathroom door as to lock me in the room alone and when I sat up he was headed toward my bed. He ran out right away, but I hate thinking what could have happened if I hadn't woken up when I did.

Thank you for this! Many people don’t understand that so many women have to live with these things in mind. Great advice and very smart.

My mom taught me most of these (especially the 'don't open your damn door if you're not expecting anyone'), but not all of the hacks that could save my life. THANK YOU! I'm prepared for college, even though I'm only fifteen lmaoo

Safety First: We in general tend to have this attitude, it won’t be me. women: no one will rape me, no one will attack me while I jog alone in the night on this trail while listening to music completely disregarding my surroundings, yes, not me. Decisions will be made and more women will continue to make the above decision leading to very undesirable outcomes, just the way things work in living life.

My husband is away so much due to the military. It's scary as hell when you know absolutely no one in the area, when you have to live alone for months at a time… I would add to list to have an alarm system. If you can't afford that at least get the cheap security cameras that can be linked to an app to your phone. Always sleep with your keys right next to you so that even when you're home, and your car is in the garage, when someone breaks in you can press the panic button to alert neighbors. Keep a knife or gun if you can afford it, but most of all a bottle of pepper spray or even Raid next to your bed. Leave the lights on the porch and front door.
Have escape route plans ready and of course look into self defense classes. And always aim in between the legs if the attacker is already too close.
Personally I've had two close calls in the past and I am very paranoid person because of the fact. I'm a very small fragile looking woman and I've learned from experience that predators see me as easy prey. Be self aware and definitely listen to what Grace has suggested in this video. Wonderful tips!

I'm 29 and although you were directing these tips to younger college students I found them really helpful! A few of the things you do I actually do as well like walking with the keys between your fingers but most of these tips were things I had not thought of that could really be a lifesaver so thanks!

Never, EVER get in a car that has no locks or the back seat is removed, or with a boy you think you know who has several friends with him. It just isn't worth it. You could be totally helpless, driven to parts unknown, and be in real trouble.

That panic button tip is a good one! I've never heard that before. I have pepper spray on my keys, and I'm always super aware, but never think about my panic button. Which is dumb, because that's exactly what it's for lol. I always felt safe at my university, but I've been a bit worried about moving out into my own apartment alone. Thanks for the tips!

I'm moving out of the house soon, and this time it isn't into a dorm with a roommate, it's by myself, and I was worried about how the whole "living alone safely" dynamic works. This video helped soooooo much! I feel much more prepared and safe now, thank you so much!
